Cheese Stuffed Garlic Buns
Ingredients
150g butter
300g strong white bread flour
7g dried yeast
1 tbsp caster sugar
250g Westcombe Cheddar
2 crushed garlic cloves
1 rosemary sprig
How to make it
Cheese stuffed garlic buns makes an excellent side dish to any pasta dish or indeed a salad. We use a strong cheese such as Westcombe Cheddar for a extremely moreish and long-lasting savoury bite.
- In a saucepan, heat 175ml water until steaming and then add 50g of cubed butter.
- Remove from the heat and leave to cool until the mixture is warm
- Combine the flour, yeast, 1 tbsp sugar and 1 tsp salt
- Add to the butter mixture and mix to a soft dough
- Knead until it feels bouncy and smooth
- Transfer to an oiled bowl and cover with a clean towel, leaving to rise for around 2 hours
- Oil and line a baking sheet
- Knock the air out of the dough and knead again for a few minutes
- Take a 20g piece of dough and flatten into a disc
- Put a cube of cheddar into the middle of the disc
- Enclose with the dough, then roll into a ball
- Repeat with the remaining dough, transferring each ball to the baking sheet
- Cover with a clean tea towel and leave to prove for another 30 mins
- Melt 100g of butter then stir in the garlic and rosemary. Take off the heat
- Heat the oven to 160°C Fan / 320°F / Gas Mark 4
- Brush the tops of the dough balls with the garlic butter
- Bake for 25-30 mins until the dough balls are cooked through
- Serve the cheese stuffed garlic buns warm
