Robiola Alta Langa (min 300g) is a soft but flavoursome cheese from Piedmont. Cow, sheep and goat’s milk gives it body and a long finish.
Taleggio DOP (min 200g) is the great Italian hard rind cheese. Its pronounced aroma gives way to a hearty, buttery flavour and creamy texture.
Pecorino Toscano Stagionato DOP (min 250g) is a wonderful nutty hard cheese made from Tuscan sheep’s milk in June and September.

The history of cheese itself can in some ways be tracked back to Italy. For instance, Pecorino has a heritage that goes back some 2,000 years. There is evidence of the first trading of Taleggio in the 10th century. Read a brief history of Italian cheeses here. Gorgonzola is one of the world’s oldest blue cheeses. It is said that for centuries the cheese was produced in Gorgonzola, near Milan, dating back to 879AD. The gorgonzola was fantastic, very creamy and just the right salty tang. Taleggio was just as described and we are still to try the Pecorino. Was disappointed that the Robiola was substituted with a cheese we didn’t like which is why I’ve given the 3 star rating, would have been 4 stars otherwise.

The cheese box was fantastic. A lovely gift. I have used the most delicious Gorgonzola to make a risotto and it was worth it, you must try this.
