What’s it like? Cheddar No 1 is a monster of a Cheddar with alpine starter cultures. It’s aged for about 15 months after which it gets a sweet taste and a distinct crunch.
Where’s it from? It is produced in Litton Cheney, Dorset, by Alex James Co.
Packaging: Cheddar No 1 comes as a whole 200g cheese.

Recipes
Cheesy chicken cobbler will have everyone digging in, it’s a perfect ‘all-in-one’ meal for the whole family. Using Alex James’ Cheddar in the scones will add a creamy, sharp dimension to the flavour for extra deliciousness.
Creamy, crunchy and mature cheddar from Alex James Co. makes these soufflés incredibly delicious. Perfect for dinner parties.
Try it in this three cheese brioche. With a deep flavour and a chewy texture, this bread is particularly good if you serve it warm with a good knob of butter.
This Goats’ Cheese salad uses Alex James Goats’ cheese which is particularly fresh and delicate. It has a natural acidity and an almost mousse-like texture. We love it on a French stick with a simple salad.
The spicy, steely and sweet tones of Blue Monday cheese make this lasagna really special. Serve it with a green salad and you’ll have your family singing all week!

This HAS to have five stars! It is a wonderfully rich cheddar, tangy and deep – my favourite cheddar of all!

We love it and my very fussy kids love it. Thank you Mr James for the best cheddar (oh and goats cheese).

I might as well have got the Cathedral City out the fridge. We got this cheese in our monthly subscription and the description mentioned the cheese once and spent the rest of the paragraph talking about the guy from Blur and his festival. Yes, he’s famous, we know, but tell us something about the cheese?! Or perhaps there isn’t that much to tell? We certainly ate it all, after all, it’s a cheddar, but there was none of the wow I’d expect from a REALLY great cheddar. We got the Montgomery’s cheddar in the next box and that was much, much better. This one? Not worth the hype.

Tastiest cheddar ever. By the way, John has no taste buds!
