Meet The Makers… The Cornish Cheese Company

Nestled in the heart of Cornwall, the Cornish Cheese Co is an independent, traditional cheese-making business dedicated to crafting exceptional cheeses.
In the face of dropping milk prices, Stansfield farm needed a new revenue stream. Philip and Carol took a look at the cheese market, and discovered there was no blue cheese being made in Cornwall. Wider market analysis led them to consider a softer, milder blue, and Cornish Blue was born. The only snag was that neither Philip or Carol knew anything about cheesemaking, so Philip signed up for a cheesemaking course.
Award-Winning Cheeses
In 2010, their flagship cheese, Cornish Blue, achieved global recognition by winning the prestigious World Cheese Awards, standing out among 2,600 entries from 26 countries. This accolade not only highlighted the exceptional quality of Cornish Blue but also placed the company on the world map of elite cheese producers.
The Cornish Cheese Co offers a range of handcrafted cheeses, each with its unique character:
- Cornish Blue: A creamy, blue-veined cheese with a mellow flavour and slight sweetness, aged to perfection.
- Cornish Brie: A soft, white-rinded cheese with a rich, creamy interior, offering a delicate and smooth taste.
- Cornish Yarg: A semi-hard cheese wrapped in nettle leaves, imparting a fresh, slightly tangy flavour. Also comes in a garlic version.
- Cornish Nanny: A luxuriously creamy blue goat’s cheese with a subtle nutty finish, which won a Super Gold at the 2024 World Cheese Awards, placing it among the top cheeses globally.
- Cornish Gouda: A rich and robust cheese with a smooth texture, reflecting traditional Dutch influences.
- Cornish Camembert: Has a soft and smooth interior and milky aroma, with a rich buttery flavour and a hint of farm yard, giving it a distinctive character.
- Cornish Cheddar: Exquisitely intense yet rounded extra mature cheddar with a smooth, creamy and slightly crunchy texture normally found in aged cheddars.
- Nanny Gwynn: This is a soft brie style goats cheese. It is a clean, fresh cheese packed with creamy flavours and a delicate hint of goats milk.
